The ingredients needed to make Matar Paneer:
Prepare 400 grams paneer cubed
Get 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Take 1 tsp cumin seeds
Make ready 3 green cardamoms
Take 2 cloves
Get 4 cloves garlic, chopped
Take 1 -inch piece of ginger, chopped
Make ready 1 medium red onion, finely chopped ~ 1 1/2 cups
Prepare 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Make ready 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Prepare 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
Get 1 tbsp coriander powder
Get 1 tsp salt, divided
Make ready 1/4 cup water to cook spices
Take 3 Roma tomatoes pureed ~ 2 1/2 cups
Make ready 1 1/2 cups water
Make ready 1 cup frozen peas rinsed under warm water
Get 1/2 tbsp kasoori methi
Take 1/2 tsp garam masala
Make ready 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
Punjabi Style Matar Paneer Recipe: Cubed and fried paneer chunks, sauteed with peas, green chillies along with a host of spices, tomatoes and ginger garlic paste. Matar paneer has paneer and matar/ green peas as main ingredients. I tried this recipe after I tasted this at my friend Sangeeta's place. Loved it very much and asked her the recipe for it.
Instructions to make Matar Paneer:
Chop the ginger, garlic and red onions, Puree the tomatoes using a blender.
Heat a pot on medium heat, once hot, add oil followed by cumin seeds, green cardamom, and cloves. Saute for about 30 seconds. Add the ginger and garlic and saute for about 30 seconds.
Add the red onions and 1/2 tsp of salt. Stir. Allow the onions to cook for about 7 minutes. Stir occasionally. The onions should be slightly brown.
Add the spices - red chili powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric powder, and coriander powder. Saute for a couple of seconds. Immediately add water and cook down the spices. The water prevents the spices from burning.
Add tomato puree and another 1/2 tsp of salt. Stir. Cover and cook for 20 minutes on medium heat.
20 minutes later - the tomatoes should look well cooked. Add 1 1/2 cups of water. Stir. Cook for a couple of minutes until heated. Add frozen peas that have been rinsed under warm water. Cook for another 2 minutes.
Now add dry kasoori methi leaves. Stir. Add paneer and cook for about 30 seconds to 1-minute max. Do not overcook the paneer. Turn off the stove. - Add garam masala.
Finish with 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro. Matar Paneer is ready! Check for salt and serve.
